Our guests come from every walk of life. We treat young adults, parents, and grandparents (at all times striving to separate them into age-specific groupings for best outcomes). We treat college students and professionals and stay-at-home moms. We treat people who are still figuring out their life path, and people who have a full plate of responsibilities – job, family, home. Our guests have two things in common:

  1. They have addictions that have stolen their potential to live their best lives.
  2. They are heroes.

Our guests are heroes in the true sense of the word, because they’ve exhibited the courage to venture into the frightening, challenging world of addiction treatment. They’ve expressed the willingness to put their addictions in the rear-view mirror, knowing that at times it might be profoundly uncomfortable. They’ve said, “I value my life enough to do whatever it takes to save it.”

A Treatment Plan That’s All About You

We’ve treated clients who have never taken an illegal drug, but who know they’ve lost the ability to control their drinking.

We’ve treated clients who started smoking marijuana in high school and are now dependent on more and more potent, more and more dangerous drugs.

We’ve treated clients who have become addicted to the most powerful opioid drug ever manufactured.

Much as no two clients are the same, no two treatment plans are ever the same. We specialize in highly individualized, highly personalized, highly customized drug- and alcohol addiction treatment, because that is the single best path to recovery. When you’re here at Elan Recovery + Wellness, we treat YOU.

We Help People
Understand Their Own Worth

Sometimes, it takes a while for our guests to get to the place where they’re able to understand and accept their own value. Think about what the world says to people in addiction:

  • “Get it together.”
  • “Just say no.”
  • “What’s wrong with you?”
  • “Don’t you have any willpower?”
  • “You’re hopeless.”
  • “You’re worthless.”
  • “Just quit. It isn’t that hard.”

But it is that hard. Addiction changes the brain, and the cravings of an addict can rule their world. Unless you’ve experienced it, there’s no way to fully understand how powerful those cravings can be. They’re so powerful they make people put their drugs before everything else – their work, their education, even the wellbeing and safety of their children.

We Treat the Families

So many people are hurt by addiction. One of the things our guests come to realize is how deeply their addiction hurts the people around them.

At Elan Wellness + Recovery, we are pioneering work with families of addicts. Once a month, family members gather for our Family Weekends, where they are offered a true process-based counseling program. The goal is to address and end the kinds of family dysfunction that enable and support addictive behaviors. Instead of just receiving education about what addiction is like for their loved one, all the family members are receiving intensive treatment to help heal and restore relationships.

We Treat People with Dual Diagnoses

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), about one-quarter of all people with a serious mental health condition also suffer from drug or alcohol dependency.

At Elan Recovery + Wellness, we understand that enduring sobriety cannot happen without treating the underlying emotional and mental health issues that can accompany addiction. These could include, but not be limited to, depression, anxiety, bipolar, post-traumatic stress disorder, and ADHD.

Dual diagnosis treatment at Elan includes:

  • Adaptive testing, which helps us assess your mental health daily
  • Complete evaluation by a psychiatrist
  • If indicated, psychotropic medication to rebalance the brain chemistry
  • Weekly visits with our staff psychiatrist
  • Management of medications by our advanced psychiatric nurse practitioner
  • Progress tracking
  • Outcome tracking to follow our guests’ successes after their discharge

We are on the cutting-edge of innovative, empirically validated approaches that augment and support treatment for addiction.

We Treat Every Generation

We’ve had guests in their late teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, and even into the 70s. But that doesn’t mean they’re always in the same room together.

Clinically, we know it’s better for people to go through drug or alcohol rehabilitation surrounded by people of their own age and stage. There are a number of very practical reasons for this:

  • Younger adults often need more life coaching and practical skills to manage their new sober lifestyle.
  • More mature adults have different responsibilities and concerns: spouses, children, jobs, homes. Finding healthy ways to balance those responsibilities is a critical part of recovery for older adults and professionals.
  • When grouped together, older adults tend to fall into caretaker roles for younger guests. While our community is built on mutual support, we want everyone to focus on his or her own recovery.
  • Lifelong, life-saving friendships form during treatment, especially when people have much in common. Peers tend to support and encourage one another even after completion of their Elan programs.

For these reasons and many more, we believe it’s very important to offer age-specific groupings whenever possible, because they lead to the best outcomes for clients of all generations.
