Diane M. Bethel is Elan Recovery & Wellness’ Valor Christian Therapist, fulfilling a long-held dream to develop and direct a faith-based therapy program. Diane is a Licensed Minister having served under the leadership of Bishop John E. Guns, Senior Pastor of St. Paul Church of Jacksonville, Inc. in Jacksonville, Florida.

As the Christian Therapist, Diane is responsible for providing clinical counseling based on biblical principles in support of the doctrine and traditions of Christianity utilizing the Life Recovery Bible; having the willingness to use the spiritual gifts involved in counseling, such as exhortation, teaching, and mercy; and provides individual, family, and group therapy, as needed.

Previously, Diane joined LSF Health Systems in December 2013, filling the position as Clinical Care Support Specialist. She oversaw aftercare for the Department of Corrections’ inmates released with co-occurring conditions. She also trained behavioral health and child welfare stakeholders in Substance Abuse treatment and other best practices needed in the community. Diane earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Nova Southeastern University December 2012. Diane is a recent graduate at Capella University’s Master of Science Mental Health Counseling Program. Diane is concentrating on receiving an LMHC and CAP to add to her repertoire of accomplishments.

Prior to her employment at LSFHS, Diane has held various positions at Lakeview Health Systems. She has worked as a mental health technician, case manager, and substance abuse counselor. As a Mental Health Technician her duties included patient observations and patient care, meeting the needs of the patients’ and to aid in emotional and moral support as it relates to their recovery process. As a case manager, she was responsible for being the liaison between the hospital and facilities and professionals, to assist with continuum of care for the patients, work with treatment team to execute post-discharge arrangement, assist the UR department with utilization activities, provides/arranges patient lectures, attend and participate in weekly staff meetings. As a substance abuse counselor she counseled adult patients’ and/or families with alcohol and drug dependency, and co-occurring disorders. Performed individual and group counseling, participated in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.

For more than a year before arriving at Elan, Diane was acting as Ombudsman at Northeast Florida’s Managing Entity, advocating for consumers she interviewed while investigating complaints and reviewing consumer rights issues. Her duties were as such; participate in the development, coordination and evaluation of a Quality Improvement/Clinical program that is designed to expand, improve, and monitor services for substance abuse and mental health clients in NE FL. She also participated in supporting special populations within the service delivery system, including forensics, and civil commitment admissions and discharges.. She worked closely with the case managers to coordinate efforts to address critical clinical issues within the provider networks.
